Youth Services Casual Kamloops, BC $29.17 - $33.49 CAD per hour

Causal employees are required to provide their availability each month following the guidelines below:

  • 12 days of availability each month
  • 4 weekdays-4weekends-4 any days in the month
  • Availability is assumed for all three shifts for the 12 days provided: day, afternoon, and awake overnight.

Day: 7:00am-3:00pm,

Afternoon: 3:00pm-11:00pm,

Awake Overnight: 11:00pm-7:00am

COMPENSATION: $29.17 - $33.49 per hour (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)

ABOUT the KAMLOOPS YOUTH SHELTER

The KYS provides living support services to meet the basic needs of youth aged 13 to 18 who require short-term emergency housing. The Youth Shelter provides assessment, intervention, harm reduction, and various other support services to assist youth in creating positive change in their lives.

What You’ll Do:

This is a single-staff role that requires the ability to work independently and to safely manage the operation during your shift.

  • Welcome youth to the shelter and assess service suitability
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
  • Complete intakes, documentation, and ongoing case notes
  • Monitor wellbeing and respond to day-to-day needs, crises, or critical incidents
  • Use trauma-informed and harm-reduction approaches in daily practice
  • Support youth in building healthy routines and life skills
  • Collaborate with caregivers and community partners to set and review goals
  • Help youth strengthen connections with family and natural supports
  • Provide referrals to internal and community resources
  • Assist with daily operations such as meal prep, light cleaning, and yard upkeep

  • Interior Community Services is a Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) employer. Casual employees' entitlement to MPP is determined based on the candidate's current contribution status. If you are already a contributing member, then your contributions are continued without interruptions.
What You Bring
  • Diploma or Degree in Human/Social Services (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years’ related experience supporting youth with mental health, substance use, or housing challenges
  • Strong relationship-building, crisis response, and teamwork skills

You bring a compassionate, calm, and strengths-based approach, along with the ability to:

  • Build trusting relationships with youth, families, and professionals
  • Respond effectively to crises, conflict, and challenging behaviours
  • Apply trauma-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive practices
  • Support emotional regulation, life skills, and goal setting
  • Work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Communicate clearly and complete accurate documentation
  • Think critically, take initiative, and follow program policies
Other Musts
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and safe driving record
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset:
    Emergency First Aid (Community Care) with CPR-C, Mandt-RCT, Safe Talk, Safe Food Handling, Medication Management, Naloxone, MCFD Privacy, Anti-Bullying and Harassment.
  • TB clearance
  • Union membership required
  • Satisfactory MCFD criminal record check
