Organization summary:

Skwlāx te Secwepemcúĺecw (SteS) is traditionally known as Skwlāx, which translates to Black Bear in Secwépemctsín, the traditional language. SteS has a unique vision and drive; the Band has not only led the way in tourism within the Shuswap, but it has also led the way in economic development. The creation of Quaaout Lodge, Talking Rock Golf, Le7ka Spa, and Little Shuswap Gas Station has helped promote Secwepemc culture, and allowed the SteS people to develop world class accommodation and leisure activities.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Human Resources professional to join our team in a multifaceted role that supports both day‑to‑day HR operations and strategic initiatives. This position plays a key role in assisting managers and the HR team with employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, policy implementation, and performance management. The successful candidate will act as a first point of contact for HR‑related inquiries, ensure accurate and organized recordkeeping through HR SharePoint and electronic personnel files, and provide guidance on matters such as progressive discipline, accommodations, and disability management.

Strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and the ability to manage time‑sensitive issues on‑site are essential to success in this position.

Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the HR team and management with HR matters such as progressive discipline, accommodations and disability management
  • Oversight and administration of human resources SharePoint files, including electronic personnel files in coordination with Finance and HR Team.
  • Answering employee HR related questions and providing guidance on completion of HR forms
  • Serving in an advisory capacity to the Occupational Health & Safety Committee (OHS) and OHS matters.
  • Disseminating information such as policy changes, benefits updates, training opportunities, classification and compensation updates, etc., to all departments as requested by the Executive Director of Administration
  • Managing recruitment including preparing job descriptions alongside department managers, organizing approvals of job descriptions, organizing the postings, candidate short screens, and setting up interview panels and questions
  • Onboarding of new staff, including drafting employment contracts collection of employee data, HR orientation while coordinating and collaborating with HR Team and Finance staff
  • Participating in the development and maintenance of HR policies and procedures, and working on HR projects alongside the HR Team
  • Working with managers and directors on the completion of performance reviews
  • Providing onsite response to time sensitive HR challenges and escalating effectively to the HR team as needed
  • Management, supervision and oversight of an HR Coordinator as well as the potential of a growing HR team
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree with a Human Resource Management concentration preferred or a comparable/relevant degree
  • Applicable work experience (of 5 + years) may be considered in lieu of education
  • Understanding of relevant government policies, regulations, and compliance standards
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) certification or active plan to obtain CPHR.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience working in a Generalist or Manager level Human Resources role.
  • Experience working in and/or with First Nations and/ or Indigenous organizations is asset
Working Conditions:
  • Majority of this position is performed in a typical office setting
  • May be required to work after hours and occasional travel may be expected
