YOUR ROLE

Working with resources across the mill site, the Process Engineer will apply their knowledge of chemical process operations and control toward process troubleshooting, optimization, and capital project support. Process troubleshooting, statistical analysis, process optimization, product quality, and cost reduction are some of the areas where this position will be adding value.

Process Engineers are a developmental position focused on supporting operations while building technical, communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills. Reporting to the Technical Manager, this position is rotational with all operational areas of the mill, including environment and energy technical positions. It provides growth opportunities in Operations, Energy and Environmental engineering.

Your Responsibilities
  • Review and optimize area operating criteria
  • Identify process problems; recommend and evaluate possible solutions to those problems
  • Plan, conduct, and prepare final reports on mill trials
  • Provide capital project support, P&t, equipment design review, equipment commissioning, and process control support
  • Assist major maintenance outage support, ISO internal audit support, and other necessary support related to process optimization
  • Evaluate new products that may improve safety, production and quality
  • Monitor performance, quality of the products and provide recommendations for optimization in all areas of the mill
  • Identify causes of process upsets and recommend process changes to prevent reoccurrence
  • Participate in reliability, quality and environmental incident investigations as required
  • Analyze data, apply problem‑solving tools, and lead fixed‑cost reduction projects

Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support to operations
  • Team player with strong personal initiative and follow‑through
  • Proficient with computers and data analysis – working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and PI/Parcview would be an asset
  • Safety‑oriented mindset
  • Familiar with process unit operations and control
  • Excellent communication skills and cross‑departmental collaboration
  • High standards of self‑performance and the ability to lead or motivate others
  • Ability to make logical and sound decisions and resolve issues efficiently and effectively
  • Continuously look for and implement process improvements and procedures
Your Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience with manufacturing processes, equipment and fundamentals
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and gather data
  • Proven leadership skills

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in the Pulp and Paper Industry
