Reporting to the Recreational Programmer, the Recreation Assistant (Special Events) will help run programs, community events, tourism initiatives, and other special events throughout the year, including leading day camps and sports programs for youth, Music in the Park, Canada Day, International Youth Day, Indigenous Day, and more.

• Create a fun and engaging environment for children and ensure their safety and well‑being.
• Lead a variety of entertaining activities, games, and events that promote social interaction, creativity, and physical activity.
• Assist in planning and executing community events and tourism initiatives.
• Work flexible hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays;
  Summer Day Camp Program runs Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:00 pm.
• Be available for the entirety of the Summer Day Camp Program as required.

• Experience working with children in a camp, recreational, or educational setting is preferred.
• Experience planning events or recreation activities is preferred.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enthusiasm, creativity, and a passion for working with children.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

The City of Merritt offers a total compensation package of $20.76 per hour
