Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 12-hour night shift Med/Surg position in an acute care unit requiring a MT or compact RN license and NIHSS certification.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a hospital-based Acute Care Unit within a Level III Trauma Center
  • Unit consists of 40 beds with two nurse stations and serves medically stable patients
  • Patient population includes medical cases such as COPD, CHF, CAD, DM, kidney failure, sepsis, wounds, and a small number of post-surgical cases
  • Stroke Certified Unit with medically stable patients and occasional surgical admissions
  • Patient ratios are typically 1:5-6
  • Uses Meditech EMR, Baxter IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Voalte communication devices
  • Schedule is comprised of 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week, with 6 required weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling period
  • May float to 2nd Surgical (surgical/oncology) unit, ED boarders, or Progressive Care Unit as needed
  • One day of general orientation plus a 12-hour acute care unit orientation and cross-training during onboarding week
  • Primary patient care assignments may include 1-2 patients in addition to the general ratio
  • Unit support includes 6-8 RN's and 4-6 CNA's per shift, with 1-2 shift supervisors on duty
  • Training is provided with orientation to unit procedures, equipment, and EMR system
  • Bedside shift report, white boards in all rooms, and hourly rounding are required unit practices
  • No restrictions on hair color, tattoos, or piercings and scrubs must be clean with no specific color required
  • Free parking is available with shuttle service provided during winter months
  • First-time travelers with strong experience are considered
  • Holiday coverage includes 1-2 holidays over the winter schedule depending on shift assignment
  • Potential for contract extension or full-time employment conversion
Requirements
  • Active MT or compact RN license
  • Minimum 1 year of recent strong Med/Surg experience required
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Experience in epidural/PCA/medication management, drain and ostomy care, chest tubes, wound care, and general post-operative recovery
  • Must provide two clinical references for consideration
