Political Science Non-Tenure Track Faculty (Applicant Pool)

Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding.

After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.

Appointments are on a part‑time basis and vary in duration – a couple of weeks, a semester, or an academic year – depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on the number of courses taught and duration.

• Teaching on‑campus or online courses.
• Advising, evaluating, and assisting students.

• Master’s Degree in political science, public administration, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduates.

• PhD in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience teaching political science courses.
• Demonstrated knowledge of college student development.

• Have the ability to relate to freshmen and develop classroom rapport with students.
• Mentor and inspire students from all backgrounds.
• Have effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty and staff.
• Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Be skilled in utilizing engaging pedagogy that involves students in the learning process.
• Take initiative and work well independently.
• Have the potential to provide leadership and assume responsibility for organizational and program activities.

Undergraduate students in Political Science have the opportunity to access the resources of a university while experiencing a liberal arts education: close engagement with professors and peers, and a course of study grounded in traditions focused on civic engagement and the human condition.

The Department of Political Science is a small department, with 8 tenure‑track faculty and 150‑200 undergraduate students. We also offer an MPA degree and maintain about 20 MPA students on average.
