Electrician/ Electrician Installation, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
Under general supervision, perform work in the installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of electrical apparatuses, equipment, and systems; act as lead worker to other classified staff in the area; and perform related work as required.
Position Responsibilities- Troubleshoots repairs and maintains electrical distribution systems including electric motors, electric controls, fire alarms, and process equipment.
- Ensures fire alarms and emergency electrical systems are operational. Performs testing on alarm systems.
- Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs new equipment and systems (performs both electrical and mechanical repair).
- Monitors work done by outside contractors for adherence to National Electrical Code Requirements and reports back to supervisor.
- Assists in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction.
- Operates power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment.
- Reads electrical circuit diagrams.
- Requisition s material and supplies from stockroom. Calls vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies and recommends purchases and suppliers.
- Maintains appropriate service and repair records. Uses CMMS system for work order documentation.
- Research purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals, and supplies.
- Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
- May train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area.
- Assists and serves as backup to other Facilities employees.
- High School diploma supplemented by completion of a Union, private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work.
- Associate Degree in Applied Science in Electricity or Electronics preferred.
- Journeyman license with 3+ years previous experience preferred.
- Make rouge sketches, estimate cost, time, and materials of electrical work.
- Analyze and respond safety and appropriately to emergency situations.
- Perform preventive maintenance on switch gears and transformers.
- Read and comprehend plans and blueprints as appropriate to trade.
- Perform heavy physical labor.
- Train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area.
- Follow and give oral and written instructions.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.
- Thorough knowledge of electricity theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment, and systems used in the electrical trade.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade.
- Computer logic and programming.
- Inspection of identification, and knowledge of all electrical distribution systems (24-12K volts).
- Methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment.
- Safety use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.
- Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical and other environmental hazards.
- Proficient in Word and Excel.
- Must have valid drivers' license.
- Must be able to walk, sit, or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to reach above shoulder level, bend/stoop, kneel, push/pull, and handle/grip frequently.
- Must be comfortable working in varying temperatures.
- Must be able to work scheduled 40 hours with the ability to work overtime as needed.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of 5 to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Regular reaching, bending, stooping, climbing, and twisting.
- Repetitive motion and substantial movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Colleague must not have a known allergy to Penicillin or Cephalosporin.
