Position Summary

The Store Manager (M) of New Way Thrift Store is responsible for leading the overall operations and growth of New Way Thrift Store. The Manager is responsible for interacting with the public, leading and training staff and volunteers, tracking hours, running reports, processing sales transactions, receiving donated items, processing donations, and restocking the store.

This position will also oversee teen employees who are part of the W.E.R.X. Youth Employment Program to develop positive workplace skills and behaviors. There will be opportunities to be involved in direct ministry activities. Because New Way's staff is small, the Store Manager is a working managerial position that provides hands‑on support and leadership to New Way staff and volunteers. Building relationships with adult and teen volunteers is a key job function.

New Way YFC Thrift Store is a faith‑based store under the direction of Youth For Christ Kalamazoo. All employees are representatives of both organizations while working at New Way and will uphold the Youth for Christ cultural attributes.

Position Requirements Retail Responsibilities
  • Hiring, training, supervising, and motivating employees to achieve sales targets and provide excellent customer service.
  • Implementing sales strategies, setting sales targets, and analyzing sales data to drive revenue and profitability.
  • Managing the store's budget, monitoring expenses, and ensuring profitability.
  • Addressing customer complaints, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive customer experience.
  • Creating appealing store displays and maintaining high visual standards to attract customers.
  • Ensuring the store is clean, organized, and safe, and managing daily operations to maintain a smooth workflow.
  • Developing and implementing promotional strategies, organizing in‑store events, and collaborating with the Development Team.
  • Scheduling staff, volunteers, and WERX students to ensure adequate coverage while maintaining budgetary constraints.
  • Overseeing the scheduling of donation pick‑ups and deliveries while maintaining the New Way Box Truck.
  • Working alongside staff and volunteers in day‑to‑day store operations, including moving furniture, sorting clothing, receiving donations, and running the register.
Spiritual Responsibilities
  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom through prayer and meditation for the Youth for Christ organization as a whole, as well as for New Way initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer and devotion as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Model empathy, humility, and care for all people, promoting equity and inclusion in words and in practice.
  • Build and maintain a spiritual support team.

  • Leadership and Management:
    Ability to lead, motivate, and guide a team of staff, volunteers, and youth to achieve goals.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers effectively.

  • Must be proficient in MS Office and database experience;
    Square experience preferred.
  • Must be physically able to lift 50 lbs regularly and move large furniture with a cart or dolly.
