Sr. Associate Scientist - Biologicals Development Analytical Sciences
Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development, Biologics Analytical Sciences in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an immunoassay and/or bioanalytical professional at the Sr. Associate Scientist level.
Position SummaryThis position will require a highly motivated individual who can effectively collaborate with other team members to advance projects. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for analytical development activities supporting vaccine projects from early research through late-stage development and the preparation and testing of biological specimens utilized in the characterization of viral and bacterial antigens. The scientist will help execute study protocols and will analyze and interpret scientific data.
The scientist must be able to demonstrate good laboratory safety awareness, rigid aseptic technique, and notebook documentation. Self‑motivation, problem‑solving skills, and an ability to work independently and within a group are essential.
- Primary techniques for our biologic platform are immunoassays, ELISA, western blotting, SDS‑Page, PCRs, bioassays, viral titrations, serological assay, immunofluorescence, and proof of inactivation. Design and conduct laboratory experiments including analytical method development, validation and transfer.
- Perform analytical methods necessary for the characterization and release of active biological ingredients.
- Run basic analytical instruments such as plate readers, microplate washers and automated workstations.
- Document and communicate results in electronic laboratory notebooks, technical reports, oral/visual presentations.
- Collaborate with other scientists in a variety of technical disciplines including within Analytical Sciences, Process Development, Biological Research, Regulatory, Quality Control and Manufacturing.
- BS/MS in immunology, virology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, veterinary sciences, animal science or other related discipline.
- More than two years of industry experience in developing, validating, and transferring vaccine physicochemical analytical methods.
- Experience with analytical assays development and validation.
- Academic or industry experience in a laboratory setting, specifically in bacterial or viral characterization.
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities (verbal and written English) with demonstrated skill in documentation, scientific writing (protocols, reports, journal articles) and presenting data and study summaries to project teams.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
- Skills and experience in experimental design, technical problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Must be able to work simultaneously on multiple projects.
- Experience working in a quality regulated environment (eg. GMP, GLP)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
