About the Unit

NVU is a 40-bed medical surgical unit specializing in the care of patients with neurological disorders such as Stroke, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis and other inflammatory disorders of the brain and spinal cord. We have a large spinal surgery population, which includes care for the post-operative neuro-surgery, ortho-surgery, Laminectomy and Spinal Fusion patients. Our unit also includes six “step-down/telemetry” beds and six bariatric beds allowing us to provide care to a diverse patient's population.

Last but not least, there is a four bed Neuro Monitoring Unit where we admit seizure patients starting at age 5 in an effort to find the cause of their seizures.

1-2 years Med/Surg Experience BLS (AHA) Required, NIHSS Required
- Pending OK, MUST obtain prior to start Michigan RN license Weekend Requirement:
Will work every other weekend. Float Requirement:
May be asked to float to other Med/Surg Units, ICU Units and ED waiting rooms Night shift ratios: 1:5-6, no LPN on nights. Charge is free, when fully staffed (5RNs. They are usually only staffed with 4 RNs and charge takes 3 pts. Charge takes 6 pts when only staffed with 3 nurses. Equipment utilized: EPIC, Pyxis
