Position Details

• Role: Registered Nurse – Stepdown
• Unit: 20-6420 General Medical Unit (GMU)
• Facility: Bronson Methodist Hospital
• Location: Kalamazoo, MI
• Start Date: 02/09/2026
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Days
• Schedule: 3x12s | 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Block Scheduling: Available upon request
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: Required to Med/Surg units (including AU & ER for Med/Surg patients)

Unit Overview

• Stepdown/Oncology Med-Surg population
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4–6 (typically 1:5)
• Beds: 29
• Adult & Geriatric patients
• Common diagnoses:
  Sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, cancer, heart failure, DKA, diabetes
• Chemotherapy admissions reduce assignment ratios
• Strong support staff (RT, PT, Pharmacy, Rapid Response, Phlebotomy, Unit Secretary)

Charting & Equipment

• EMR: Epic
• Equipment: Welch Allyn vital sign towers, Sigma IV pumps, BiPAP/CPAP

Requirements (HARD STOPS)

• Active Michigan RN License (in hand)
• 2 years PCU/Stepdown experience required
• ONCC or ONS certification – MUST BE IN HAND
• BLS (AHA) & NIHSS required
• Strong skills in IV starts and chemotherapy administration
• Proof of Flu vaccination required (medical exemptions only)
• References required
