Position SummaryThe Public Relations Manager is a strategic communications leader with exceptional writing and relationship-building skills. This role develops and executes multi-channel communication strategies that engage media, community leaders, patients, physicians, and employees. The position oversees systemwide media relations, reputation management, crisis and emergency communications, executive messaging, and corporate communications initiatives.
Serving as a key liaison between Bronson leadership, medical staff, community partners, and the media, the Public Relations Manager helps promote transparency, build trust, and strengthen Bronson’s reputation as a leading healthcare system and employer of choice. This role reports to and works closely with the System Director of Internal Communications and Public Relations.
Key Responsibilities System Media Relations- Develop and execute proactive earned media strategies that position Bronson as a leading healthcare provider and employer
- Serve as primary media contact and organizational spokesperson
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and national media
- Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, statements, pitches, and PSAs
- Monitor news cycles and identify timely opportunities for thought leadership and coverage
- Coordinate and support media interviews, including message development, spokesperson preparation, and on-site support
- Plan and manage media events, press briefings, tours, and filming
- Provide media training support for leaders and subject matter experts
- Monitor and triage media inquiries through the department media phone and escalation processes
- Track media coverage, maintain reporting logs, and share coverage results with leaders and partners
- Maintain media lists, PR resources, and internal processes
- Develop and distribute internal and external communications related to system initiatives, partnerships, and announcements
- Support executive communications including talking points, remarks, presentations, and internal messaging
- Draft content for board and executive appointments, awards, recognitions, and community involvement
- Partner with digital teams on online reputation monitoring and response strategies
- Collaborate with HR, risk, and patient experience teams on issue monitoring and response
- Coordinate external speaking requests and community representation for Bronson leaders and clinicians
- Maintain organizational profiles, boiler plates, fact sheets, and feature stories
- Represent Bronson with healthcare associations and community partners
- Assist with inbound website inquiries related to media, sponsor ships, and public requests
- Develop, maintain, and evolve crisis communication plans and protocols
- Serve as Public Information Officer and primary PR contact for emergency preparedness efforts
- Participate in emergency planning meetings, incident briefings, and exercises
- Lead internal and external communications during incidents, outages, or emergencies
- Support executive messaging and talking points during crisis situations
- Coordinate closure communications, alerts, and media notifications during incidents or severe weather
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, business administration, or related field
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in corporate communications, public relations, or strategic communications
- Healthcare communications experience required
- Demonstrated expertise in media relations, executive communications, and reputation management
- Exceptional writing skills for diverse audiences and platforms
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgment
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
- Experience working with external agencies preferred
