Mission / SummaryThe Manufacturing Associate Manager is responsible for direct supervision of paper machine production, quality, maintenance coordination, and safety. The role includes hourly employee supervision on shift and indirect oversight of off‑shift staff. Duties involve safety, quality, process, and mechanical checks; ensuring staffing, monitoring operations, preparing reports, scheduling, and addressing mechanical and personnel issues. The manager serves as a bridge between management and frontline employees to meet company goals while fostering a positive work environment.
JobFunctions
- Provides leadership and supervision to production work teams and serves as the link to plant management. Facilitates team meetings and works with team members to develop their full potential.
- Supervises and facilitates day‑to‑day shift activities, provides training, oversees scheduling, material handling, maintenance, and resolves production problems.
- Maintains a safe work environment, encourages safety practices, and supports the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager.
- Ensures product quality, production efficiencies, and overall productivity meet or exceed established standards.
- Strives to be technically proficient on the machinery; assists the team in problem resolution and ensures testing and development are professional.
- Ensures compliance with all facility food safety, defense, and quality policies.
- Supports GPI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values and involvement in LEAN, 5S, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement programs.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Strives to clearly understand customer requirements and deliver results to meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Extensive communication, organizational, and decision‑making skills.
- Managerial courage and time‑management ability.
- BS in Paper Science or Chemical Engineering preferred; other engineering degrees considered.
- Continuous Improvement – Lean Six‑Sigma or related knowledge preferred.
- Must work rotating 12‑hour shift schedule.
- Will directly manage 24/7 operation via direct reports.
- Occasional overnight travel, including flying, driving, riding, or rail.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Handle awkward and repetitive movements.
- Routine lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Climb ladders and stairs; operate in fluctuating temperature environments.
