Role Summary

Michigan-based Environmental Health & Safety Professional on the GMS EHS team; will develop, implement, and maintain Health & Safety programs in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and Zoetis policies, to minimize the impact of site operations on the surrounding community and to ensure a safe, compliant workplace.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and investigate work areas, practices, and processes to identify and control potentially hazardous conditions, materials, and behaviors.
  • Gather hazard and risk assessment data on raw materials and products.
  • Maintain an awareness of regulatory developments and internal Zoetis requirements and assess the impact on operations.
  • Review, update, and maintain all core site Health & Safety regulatory programs (e.g., LOTO, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication), ensuring they remain compliant, current, and aligned with best-in-class standards.
  • Update associated EHS training, SOPs, and documentation to comply with internal and regulatory standards.
  • Lead Contractor Safety Management, including onboarding, permitting, and field oversight.
  • Maintain Business Continuity Plans (BCP), Emergency Action Plans (EAP), and support FM Global recommendations.
  • Provide EHS support for site projects and capital work, including design reviews and safety requirements.
  • Support incident investigations (injuries, equipment damages, near misses), corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Complete required training and seek out additional training to enhance program compliance and improvements.
  • Effectively communicate the status of EHS programs via training, reports, metrics, etc.
  • Organize and prioritize work schedule to meet project and task deadlines.
  • Participate and contribute as an EHS Team member. Be responsible for assigned team deliverables.
  • Provides/conducts instructor-led training.
  • Evaluate emerging and established technologies for potential implementation at Kalamazoo GMS sites.
  • Maintain foundational knowledge and understanding of Right First Time/Lean tools and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) as they relate to Kalamazoo GMS operations.
  • Periodically work off- shifts, to support Health & Safety related activities for off-shift colleagues.
  • Colleague may be needed to manage emergency situations in a stressful environment.
  • Embraces change and views challenges as an opportunity for continuous process improvement.

Skills
  • Demonstrated strengths in public speaking, communication, coaching, training/education, problem-solving and continuous process improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, coupled with excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Experience with continuous improvement including the development and implementation of best practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to collaborate with various departments across the organization on Health & Safety issues.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and ability to learn and effectively utilize Zoetis systems including but not limited to SAP, PAS/X, LIMS, Veeva Vault).
  • Demonstrated success in championing change.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Environmental Health & Safety related field, engineering, chemistry, or similar discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years in Health & Safety or other relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining regulatory programs (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, RCRA, PSM if applicable).
  • Proven ability to assess workplace hazards, conduct incident investigations, and drive corrective actions.
  • Experience developing, delivering, and tracking EHS training.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies (JSA/JHA, process hazard analysis, exposure assessments).
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and supporting audits or inspections.
  • Strong ability to interpret regulations, standards, and technical information.
  • Practical experience with emergency response, contractor safety, and industrial hygiene monitoring is a plus.
Additional Requirements
  • The facility manufactures Cephalosporins; the candidate must not be Cephalosporin sensitive.
  • The work environment includes both office settings and manufacturing areas; typical conditions involve 50% stationary work and 50% walking/standing.
  • May be required to lift up to 25 pounds and travel to multiple site locations.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hats, steel-toed shoes, eye protection, gloves, and protective clothing will be used.
