Position: Children's Ministry Associate (part time)

Overview

Thank you for your interest in Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries. We are seeking applicants who are qualified, who really love people, and who, by the pattern of their lives, are role models and want to spread the gospel. Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a NICOTINE FREE MINISTRY. We desire that all applicants feel comfortable in a Christian environment. All staff members participate in prayer and Bible study and need to be comfortable with a lifestyle of prayer and worship that is integrated into day-to-day job functions.

General Description

General Description: Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)(3) non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Our designated purpose is religious, and we are a Christ-centered ministry dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We consider every position essential to fulfill our ministry and statement of purpose. Each employee must have a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.

Functions
  • As a member of staff, uphold, promote, and encourage, in word and deed, the desired organizational culture and values; purposefully seek to establish and maintain a culture based on grace and that affirms and advances KGM’s vision and purpose.
  • Maintain a peaceful, ministry-focused atmosphere. Setup and maintain a safe, clean, and appealing environment.
  • Welcome children and parents as they arrive to the Children’s Ministry.
  • Oversee support staff, work trainees, and volunteers in the Infant and Toddler Classroom.
  • Supervise and implement the program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Children’s Ministry, guiding the program to the needs of the individual child.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate activities and crafts. Prepare play and learning materials. Supervise children’s play and monitor their physical safety.
  • Log incidents as needed. Communicate needs, successes, and struggles to the Manager of the Children’s Ministry.
  • Check each child’s diapers/pull-ups every two hours and change as needed.
  • Feed children breakfast and snack, and the infants as needed.
  • Guide children’s behavior and social/emotional development. Perform simple first aid in emergencies.
  • Participate in recommended training programs. Help plan weekly Mommy and Me group times with the Preschool Associate.
  • Document children’s feedings, naps, diaper changes, and other information parents may need to know.
  • Work with other Children’s Ministry staff to continually improve in serving families and children.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Highly ethical with the ability to make smart, timely decisions.
  • Share the gospel message openly and clearly.
  • Relate well to both children and adults. Provide leadership and stability for program continuity.
  • Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm, and receptive attitude toward children.
  • Lift 50 pounds.

  • Have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and a desire to serve Him.
  • Be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ. Exhibit spiritual maturity as defined by evangelical biblical standards and in accordance with the employee handbook.

  • Possess a love for children. Demonstrate a courteous and Christ-like manner with internal and external partners.

  • Flexible, cooperative spirit. Possess and promote a drug- and nicotine-free lifestyle.
Working Conditions / Physical Factors

Occasionally = 1%–33%;
Frequently = 34%–66%;
Continuously = 67%–100%. Work will predominantly require individuals to work in a typical childcare environment.

Education / Experience and/or Certification

Prefer a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Must have a high school diploma. Must have training and/or experience in Early Childhood or Elementary Education. Sit on the floor to play with children. Must be able to be a company-sponsored driver.

Pay: The pay range for this role is $15 - $15 USD per hour (Kalamazoo Gospel Mission).
