Overview
Pharmacy Technician On Call Kailua Kona at Kaiser Permanente. Performs semi-technical and clerical duties in processing medications, filling, packaging, restocking to fixed levels, and cashiering for collectible services in alignment with policies and regulations.
Responsibilities- Greet patients, members and health care personnel in a caring, helpful manner and initiate service transactions using proper forms and processes.
- Refer inquiries regarding patient care or consultations to the pharmacist.
- Enter patient and prescription information to produce labels and assist in the prescription filling process.
- Match prescriptions with labels, select proper drug and quantity, fill containers, apply labels, and present to the pharmacist for checking.
- In hospital settings, prepare adequate supply of medication for unit dose distribution as trained.
- Process clinic and hospital drug requisitions, receive and fill drug and medical supply requests, maintain stock levels, remove outdated items, and replenish to fixed levels.
- Fill and update unit dose cassettes and assist with medication, OTC products, or supplies to patients; refer consultations to the pharmacist and collect payments as needed.
- Pick up and deliver medications and supplies per schedule (e.g., unit dose exchange, control substances, floor stock).
- Calculate prices, sell non-prescription drugs, and handle payments (cash, check, credit card) with proper verification and receipts.
- Balance monies and reconcile discrepancies; prepare bank deposits.
- Gather and compute data for health plan and routine reports as necessary; maintain OTC charge schedules and price lists.
- Order and maintain cashiering area supplies; ensure equipment operates properly and report malfunctions.
- Maintain appropriate drug and supply levels in hospital settings and manage orders, receipts, storage, returns, credits, and discards of drugs and supplies.
- Pack, compound, reconstitute, and distribute inventory for issue, transfer, or dispensing; file prescriptions and related documents timely and correctly.
- Resolve immediate problems, report irregularities, and maintain organized, clean, safe work areas.
- Comply with department policies, safety rules, attendance, attire, and continuing education; answer and direct incoming calls as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
- Previous pharmacy experience or enrollment in a pharmacy technician training program.
- High school diploma or equivalent related experience.
- Pharmacy Technician Certificate from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
- Ability to safely handle and/or prepare compounds (e.g., chemotherapeutic agents, biologicals).
- Strong customer service, oral communication, multi-tasking, teamwork, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
- Effective communication with co-workers, customers, vendors, and on the phone; strong English reading/writing/speaking skills; ability to follow instructions and pay attention to detail.
- Mathematical ability, organization, prioritization, and alertness.
- Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
