Job SummaryUpward Bound Tutors will conduct group tutoring sessions for high‑school participants in core academic subjects, reporting to the Upward Bound Academic Specialist.
Qualifications- Required Education and/or
Work Experience:
Completed coursework in the subject area with a 3.0 or higher GPA; sophomore or higher status at a post‑secondary institution; well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills. - Preferred Education and/or
Work Experience:
Professional high‑school teaching and/or tutoring experience.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide tutoring to Upward Bound students to aid comprehension of coursework and collaborate with staff to improve retention and success.
- Promote effective academic readiness and good study habits.
- Maintain attendance data and provide evaluations of student learning to ensure academic progress.
- Enhance learning concepts and strategies; provide test preparation and skill building as needed.
- Cover subject areas including English composition & literature; history; social sciences;
Mathematics (Geometry, Algebra I–III, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre‑Calculus, Calculus, Probability & Statistics);
Science (Physical Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics);
Spanish.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
- Maintain strong working relationships with staff.
- Contribute to overall departmental success by completing all assigned duties.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Positive attitude and an academic role model.
- Ability to present material using verbal, visual, and/or written methods.
- Ability to incorporate technology into tutorial sessions.
Work closely with Upward Bound staff and student participants.

Special Job DimensionsUp to 12 hours per week. Tutoring occurs Monday‑Thursday 4:00‑7:00 pm, occasionally on Saturdays, scheduled based on subject demand, time availability, and student needs.
Background Check RequirementsCriminal background check, Arkansas Mandated Reporters training, and MVR required.
Salary and Compensation$14.00 per hour.
