Job FunctionInstalls and maintains power plant mechanical equipment.
Essential Functions- Works from blueprints, sketches and written or oral instructions.
- Works with other trades in dismantling, inspecting, and repairing generators, exciters, motors, and mechanical equipment.
- Assembles, dismantles, cleans and repairs power plant rotating and mechanical equipment during operational or overhaul periods.
- Installs new and reconditioned power plant machinery.
- Realigns and balances all types of rotating equipment.
- Services and repairs lubricating oil systems.
- Repairs cranes and hoists, air compressors, ventilating systems, and fans.
- Uses and repairs all precision hand tools and power operated tools.
- Sets up and operates all machine tools such as lathes, boring mills, shapers, milling machines and drill presses. Knows properties and uses of metals. Makes machine parts; may be required to machine metals and parts to original tolerances.
- Operates material-handling equipment and vehicles as required.
- Performs necessary rigging for machinist work and performs general maintenance work.
- Assumes an emergency management role, as assigned, and performs specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
- Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications on any or all of the above operations.
- Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
- Must pass Company Written Job Knowledge Test (1st Year).
- Graduate of Machinist Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.
