Vacancies- Wastewater Engineering and Construction Division – Two vacancies across multiple branches:
- Collection System Engineering Branch – Responsible for a Collection System Engineering Section and the engineering, design, and administrative work connected with planning, directing, developing, and reviewing plans, specifications, cost estimates, engineering studies, and support during construction on all of the City’s initiated gravity sewer improvements and appurtenances (sewer tunnels, interceptor sewers, medium‑size trunk sewers, and smaller sewers).
- Plant Engineering Branch – Responsible for a Plant Engineering Section and the engineering, design, and administrative work connected with planning, directing, developing, and reviewing plans, specifications, cost estimates, engineering studies and support during construction on all of the City’s initiated wastewater facilities projects (wastewater treatment facilities and processes; air/odor control facilities and processes; wastewater monitoring facilities; wastewater treatment disposal facilities and processes – solids and liquids;
wastewater and solid water reuse facilities and processes; pump stations and force mains). - Refuse Collection and Disposal Division – One vacancy directing and coordinating all administrative, technical, financial, and operational activities of the Disposal Branch.
- Occasional exposure to construction and traffic hazards, sewage gases, sewer treatment chemicals, paint fumes, noise, electrical hazards, and moving equipment.
- Physical dexterity required for field investigations, including climbing ladders, descending into trenches, tanks, and manholes, crawling through pipes, carrying sampling, measuring, and testing equipment, and walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces.
- Regular hours anticipated but may require shift, evening, night, weekend, or holiday work to accommodate unusual problems or workload.
- Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.
Actual salary commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.

Minimum Qualification RequirementsAt the time of application, you must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non‑citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education RequirementGraduation from a regionally accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.
Experience RequirementThree years of registered professional civil engineering experience, including or supplemented by one year in supervising or being responsible for an engineering operation or function.
License Requirement- Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile).
- Current State of Hawaii registration as a professional Civil Engineer; applicants with an out‑of‑state license must obtain a Hawaii license prior to appointment.
- Attach an electronic copy of your professional Civil Engineer license (Hawaii or out‑of-state) to your application.
