This is NOT a remote position – the job requires in‑person work.

Under the general supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and in collaboration with College Counselors, Faculty, and Staff, this position will coordinate the Basic Needs Program for the students at Maui College.

Work assignments may include evening and weekend hours, and off‑campus locations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • ** Oversee the Hookahua Lab by providing essential basic needs, academic support, and student services, managing student employees, and integrating Hawaiian knowledge to promote student identity, belonging, and persistence.
  • ** Develops and implements a comprehensive recruitment process that includes proactive outreach to campus-based credit and non-credit students, community organizations, work experience sites, potential employers, and other partners to provide holistic support for students.
  • ** Provide proactive basic needs advising for a caseload of students, fostering an institutional climate supportive of students.
  • ** Provide students with resources to address basic needs and assist students with enrollment and/or application for services.
  • ** Promote Hawaiian cultural education, revitalization of the Hawaiian language, and aina-based learning by designing and implementing basic needs‑related programming that incorporates Hawaiian language, history, and culture, as well as aina-based pedagogies (e.g., food systems, aina-based learning, ike kupuna).
  • ** Design and implement the food pantry/closet, including the development of partnerships with community agencies, organizations, and system committees that focus on basic needs roles and functions.
  • ** Coordinate and conduct regular meetings with students to check on their progress and assist with formulating basic needs plans with resources for, including but not limited to, food assistance, financial help, health services, housing and shelter, and childcare.
  • ** Establish and manage a campus Basic Needs Committee.
  • ** Collaborate with Counselors, the Basic Needs Committee, and other campus partners to integrate a student's basic needs plan into their existing academic and career plans.
  • ** Manage all case management notes and upload documents to the appropriate secured database systems.
  • ** Gather, document, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data related to student engagement, service utilization, and outcomes. Engages in assessment and reflection processes to enhance culturally informed basic needs practices, guide program improvement, and assist grant reporting and sustainability efforts.

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Education and Professional

    Work Experience:

    • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Counseling and Guidance, Counseling Psychology, College Student Personnel Services, Human Resources (to include CTAHR and Personnel), Communications or a related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for Counseling or Human Resources or Communications; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of higher education as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles, and methodologies.
    • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with higher education.
