The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Region Highways & Aviation is looking for a Rural Airport Foreman in Bethel to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What you will be doingAs the Rural Airport Foreman in Bethel for the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, you’ll lead a team responsible for the upkeep and safe operation of rural highways, airports (including a certificated FAA Part 139 and TSA 1542 airport), seaplane floats, bridges, and docks. You will oversee snow removal operations, perform infrastructure inspections, manage airport compliance with FAA, TSA, and State regulations, and ensure transportation assets are functional for the public.
You’ll supervise equipment operators and ensure safety and maintenance standards are met. This is a hands-on leadership role where your work directly impacts safety and mobility for Alaskans and visitors.
DOT&PF’s mission is to Keep Alaska Moving. As part of the Maintenance and Operations team, the ideal candidate will affect Alaskan life daily as goods and services rely on the State’s transportation system. The department values integrity, excellence, and respect.
The Bethel Maintenance Station includes 9 staff who operate and maintain regulatory certification and compliance of this FAR Part 139 and TSA 1542 airport, State Highways, and Roads across approximately 40,000 square miles of Southwest Alaska. We maintain airports and roadways in all conditions year-round to keep Alaska moving.

Experience and requirements
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire; a conditional hire may be possible for endorsements (see notes below).
- Three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of highways and/or airports.
- Qualifications to operate all required equipment at the duty station.
Special notes
- Some positions require Hazardous Materials endorsement.
- Some positions require American Traffic Safety Services Association training.
- Positions require First Aid, ETT, CPR, First Responder, and ARFF certification (14 CFR Part 139) and Airport Security Coordinator certification (49 CFR Part 15f42).
- Incumbents must pass a criminal background check and be fingerprinted.
- Some positions may require firearm/ammunition use and are subject to Title 18, U.S.C. 922(g)(9) regarding domestic violence convictions.
- Incumbents for positions requiring a Commercial Driver’s License are subject to drug and alcohol testing per federal regulations.
