Job Summary

Provides support and mental health services to students at assigned school(s). Collaborates in team MTSS intervention meetings regarding students. Delivers lessons to students in areas of mental health. Trains and provides expertise to staff in areas of specialty. Make referrals to additional support services.

Essential Job and Duties Duty 1:
Provide school social work services to students who are at-risk for school failure and/or are demonstrating the need to receive social/emotional supports to address social, emotional, or behavioral concerns within the school setting.
  • Assists teachers and parents in developing and implementing behavior management plans to remediate problem behaviors.
  • Assists students to improve their academic and social/emotional well-being.
  • Provides support to students in the areas of social skills, anger management and stress reduction to students who are experiencing social/emotional/behavioral problems that interfere with their learning or the ability of others to learn.
  • Provides short-term individual and group counseling to students who are experiencing social/emotional/behavioral problems. Provides information to families and assists them in accessing long-term or intensive counseling services, as needed.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team planning
  • Provides expertise to school staff regarding the social and emotional needs of students.
Duty 2:
Acts as a liaison between the home, school and community providers to access, mobilize and coordinate services.
  • Communicates with staff, administration and parents concerning students’ social, emotional and behavioral progress.
  • Enlists the support of parents and families to promote students’ success.
  • Builds home/school partnerships by providing support to parents and family members through the use of school conferences and home visits.
  • Interprets school policies to families.
  • Provides information to students and parents about services available within the community. Makes referrals to community providers, as appropriate.
  • Consults and collaborates with social services, mental health and other community providers.
  • Maintains an accurate record of student, parent and other contacts.
Duty 3:
Provides crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Conducts risk assessments.
  • Coordinates home, school and community resources in addressing the crisis situation.
  • Coordinates follow-up services as needed
Duty 4:
Performs other professional work that furthers the district mission, goals, and initiatives, and within the scope of this position.
  • Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, department and district meetings including IEP and MTSS meetings.
  • Serves on District committees, task forces, work groups, etc., as requested.
  • Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, and instructional and educational technologies.
  • Collect data and information for grant reporting and assist in meeting grant obligations
Education / Knowledge Requirement

Minimum education required to perform adequately in position could reasonably be attained only by completing the following:

Minimum Master's Degree in Social Work with School Certification

License Requirement

Hold a License of Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or License of Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Alaska. Hold a School Social Work Certification from an accredited graduate program. DEED Type C Certification
