The Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children's Services (OCS) is recruiting for full‑time Protective Service Specialist 1/2/3 in Nome, Alaska. This position is open to all applicants.
What You Will Be DoingAs a Protective Service Specialist (PSS), you will be responsible for all aspects of Child Protection Services in the Family Services Unit, the Investigations & Assessment Unit, or as a Generalist covering both. Duties include investigating reports of abuse and/or neglect, preparing intervention plans, gathering family information, developing child safety plans, placing children with relatives or licensed foster homes, providing ongoing and in‑home services, coordinating referrals, writing court reports, working closely with Tribal/Community Partners, and frequent face‑to‑face and telephonic contact with parents and caregivers.
Travel is required.

The Working EnvironmentThis position requires travel in small aircraft, all‑terrain vehicles, or small boats to remote Alaska villages. Overnight stays in non‑traditional accommodations may be necessary. Expected travel: 4+ times a month. The role includes evenings, weekends, and on‑call work.

Training or experience in social science, behavioral science, health science, guidance and counseling, or related fields; case management; licensing; probation services; or care of delinquent juveniles.
Special NotesValid Alaska driver’s license, background investigation including fingerprinting, and child protective history check may be required. Mileage reimbursement is available for personal vehicles. Relocation reimbursement may be provided.
