Position: Juvenile Justice Counselor 1, On-Call (26N24001)

Juvenile Justice Counselor 1 (On-Call, Non-Permanent)

This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify.

What You Will Be Doing

Work will be on-call and sporadic, covering some day, evening, and night shifts, including weekends and holidays. You will ensure the security of youth awaiting transport to the nearest juvenile detention facility while at the Nome Probation Office during assigned shifts and occasionally perform escorts from Nome to other Youth Facilities in the State or to residential treatment centers in and out of Alaska.

Working Environment You Can Expect

This position is at the Nome Probation Office, located at 113 W Front St., Suite 215, Nome, Alaska. Shift coverage is flexible and may include off‑site work such as escorts and air travel.

Additional Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 20 years of age or older.
  • Must be on call and able to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional travel may be required.
  • Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
  • Background investigation, criminal record check, and medical examination prior to initial appointment.
At the Time of Interview, Applicant Must Submit
  • Copy of transcripts if using to meet MQs (unofficial are okay, please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts).
  • Three (3) names & phone numbers of professional references.
  • Two (2) performance evaluations from previous employers, if available.
At the Time of Appointment, Selected Candidate Must Submit
  • Valid driver license.
Background Check

The successful candidate must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a state and FBI fingerprint‑based background check.
