Position: AMYA RPM Life Skills Coordinator - (090384)

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Alaska Military Youth Academy (AMYA) is hiring an AMYA RPM Life Skills Coordinator in the General Government bargaining unit (GGU) range 16. This role is open to Alaska Residents only.

Overview

As the AMYA RPM Life Skills Coordinator you will model and teach coping strategies to help cadets manage emotions, navigate social, behavioral, and academic challenges within a quasi‑military structure. You will support personal growth and emotional well‑being, and you will gain ongoing learning opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Guide cadets in developing resilience, responsible decision‑making, and healthy communication.
  • Plan and deliver classroom and outdoor life‑skills sessions for cadets in a residential setting.
  • Establish a supportive environment that values cadet efforts and promotes growth.
  • Collaborate with the RPM Supervisor and other team members to ensure consistent program delivery.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful environment and comply with the Joint Base Elmendorf‑Richardson regulations.
Qualifications
  • Experience in counseling, interviewing, or case management with youth or the behavioral/social services field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; empathy, courtesy, cultural sensitivity.
  • Adaptability and ability to manage competing priorities in a high‑stress residential setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication; ability to convey information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of or experience with youth development programs, including residential or base settings.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and willingness to maintain a DBIDS card and security clearances.
  • Ability to travel to remote field sites and work in varying weather and conditions.
  • Minimum post‑secondary education or equivalent experience as outlined in the posting.
