Job Description
Bureau:
Office of Children's Services (OCS), Department of Family and Community Services. Position:
Social Services Associate (SSA), full‑time, located in Ketchikan, Alaska. Open to Alaska Residents only.
A Social Services Associate provides administrative support to professional staff by gathering information for assessments, case planning, and evaluation.
Duties include:
- Providing parenting support during family contact to enable parents to practice parenting skills in a safe environment.
- Accessing electronic databases and other sources of information.
- Providing information to professional staff that triggers referrals to other agencies.
- Working closely with families and children to enhance family capacity, stability, and cultural connections.
Travel requirements: up to a week at a time, 0‑2 times a month or year, with occasional overnight stays. Essential staff may be required to work after hours, on‑call hours, through pandemics, natural disasters, and holidays. Overtime and on‑call work are expectations.
Travel & OvertimeTravel to communities within Southeast Alaska, including villages and cities. Travel may involve small aircraft for outlying areas.

- Valid Real a driver’s license required.
- Division may have vehicles assigned; mileage reimbursement available for personal vehicle use. Personal vehicle insurance must be current.
- Child protective history check, background and fingerprint check required.
- Candidate may need to attend multiple training courses located in Anchorage.
One year of any combination of postsecondary or vocational education and/or experience in assisting clients, customers, or the general public in explaining and applying guidelines, policies, or services.

- A list of three professional references (daytime phone numbers and email addresses); at least two must be current or former supervisors.
