Job Title: Juvenile Justice Counselor 1/2
Location: Bethel Youth Facility, 950 State Highway, Bethel, Alaska
Job DescriptionThis position is open to Alaska residents only. The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill a Juvenile Justice Counselor 1/2 position in Bethel. The vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 level depending on the applicant’s training and experience. Applicants are encouraged to apply for all levels they are qualified for.
What You Will Be DoingoolAs a Juvenile Justice Counselor you will be part of a team that is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Alaskan youth. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing therapeutic services that incorporate a restorative justice approach to community protection.
- Influencing, inspiring, and transforming the lives of juvenile offenders and their families through program implementation.
- Delivering life‑skills training, anger management, drug and alcohol education, and related programs.
- Maintaining the security and safety of residents, visitors, staff, and facility buildings.
The Division of Juvenile Justice’s mission is to hold juvenile offenders accountable, promote safety and restoration of victims and communities, and assist offenders and their families in preventing crime. Our core values include:

Shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime. Working as part of a 24‑hour unit security team.

PJ03A1 – Juvenile Justice Counselor 1:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Age 20 or older.
PJ03A2 – Juvenile Justice Counselor 2:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six months paid or volunteer experience teaching or coaching group activities for youth, OR six months as a Juvenile Justice Counselor 1, OR 6 months experience in corrections, law‑enforcement, parole, probation, residential treatment casework Patrol or social casework.
- Demonstrated achievement of department‑approved performance standards.
- Age 20 or older.
Substitutions
- Completed coursework from an accredited college may substitute work experience at a ratio of three semester or four quarter hours per month.
- Military experience may substitute work experience on a month‑for‑month basis.
At the interview you must submit:
- Copy of transcripts (unofficial acceptable if institution name or URL is listed).
- Three professional reference names and phone numbers.
- Two performance evaluations from previous employers, if available.
At the appointment you must submit:
- Valid driver’s license. li>
