The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill a Transitional Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2 position located at the Johnson Youth Center in Juneau, AK. This position will be filled at either the 1 or 2 level depending on the applicant’s qualifications and job experience.

As a juvenile probation officer (JPO) you will be working to positively influence, motivate, and steer young offenders toward community restoration and developing competencies to lead a productive and crime free life. JPOs are asked to set high expectations for themselves as well as the youth they work with. The supervision and accountability-based services you provide are designed to promote notable, long-term, positive benefits to the families, youth, and communities that we serve.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

This position is conveniently located in the capitol city of Juneau, AK at the Johnson Youth Center, 3252 Hospital Drive. Ample parking and an individual private office are provided to juvenile probation officers. While most of the work is local to Juneau, supervising our probationers does require travel to other communities, working a variety of hours, and sharing on-call responsibilities with other staff.

In addition to Juneau, we supervise youth in Gustavus, Haines, Hoonah, Skagway, and Yakutat.

This is a flexibly staffed position at the JPO 1 or 2 level, a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This position requires the ability to assume on-call duties on a rotating basis, after hours in the evenings and on weekends. Supervision of probationers also requires travel to outlying communities.
