Overview
As our surface welder technician, you will weld components using various methods and welding equipment to support mining operations. Every day you will work at a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace and equipment. To thrive in this role, you must be able to provide welding and fabrication needs with emphasis on maintenance inspections, adjustments and repairs.
We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently.
The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 510 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Hecla has a long history as a distinguished precious metals producer and is recognized for safety and environmental awards. Greens Creek is seeking new team members committed to professional growth and success.
WhatYou Can Expect In This Role
- Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on safety and what to do.
- Apply your mechanical aptitude in equipment maintenance and repair and complete required maintenance reports and logs.
- Working on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home if you are not based in Juneau. Every department is slightly different, but our electrical department works 14 days for 12.5 hours each, followed by 14 days off.
- Lead and perform welding fabrication projects as required.
- Line bore experience required (please note level of experience on resume)
- Bucket rebuilding (experience preferred)
- Able to follow engineered repair plan/prints and execute (Boom, Man Baskets, Cab/Rops)
- Certifications are required (please list specific certifications, current or otherwise)
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with plasma cutter or torch and prep to match prints and/or infield measurements).
- Be proficient with precision measuring equipment to facilitate work ( tooling required for the position to be discussed during the interview process).
- Must be comfortable welding components using multiple methods in various positions (vertical, horizontal and overhead).
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws using mag testing and dye penetrant testing.
- You will be required to perform work area inspections before every job, then prioritize the safety of your work space before you get started.
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety. Must be able to comply with site, state and MSHA regulations.
- Safety is our top priority. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before we start the day for your safety and the safety of your team.
- Must be able to work as part of a team as well as independently when needed.
