ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS!The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Design, Engineering, and Construction is looking for a Driller Sub-Journey to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What You Will Be Doing:- Assist Journey Driller and field geologist with drilling, sampling, and subsurface exploration activities for CIP projects across Northern Alaska, including setup, operation, and safe site restoration.
- Support transportation and logistics of drilling equipment and supplies to project sites, including coordinating commercial transport when required.
- Perform equipment setup, operation, and routine maintenance (drill rigs, sampling tools, small engines, auxiliary equipment) to minimize downtime and ensure safe, efficient operations.
- Aid in preparing drill/test sites by clearing vegetation, leveling ground, removing snow, or constructing access routes using hand tools or heavy equipment.
- Conduct field and shop tasks such as collecting and preserving soil/rock samples, assisting with subsurface tests, performing inventories, maintaining supplies, and completing required paperwork and safety training.

This position can be based in either Anchorage or Fairbanks, Alaska. The role offers a dynamic mix of shop work, field work, and team collaboration. Year‑round travel is required for site visits, which primarily involve conducting and supporting geotechnical drilling operations. Depending on location and conditions, travel may include small plane, boat, ATV, snow machine, or participation in helicopter‑supported operations.
