Wildland Fire & Resource Technician Flex 1-2-3 (PCN 10-9670)
Position by the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection in Soldotna, Alaska. Applicants of any background are welcome. This is a permanent seasonal position staffed 7 months each year to provide initial attack wildfire suppression. The role may include additional fuels mitigation work outside of fire season.
What You Will Be Doing- Fire suppression, fire prevention, hazardous fuel reduction.
- Use of hand and power tools; prepare and maintain fire gear and equipment.
- Station and facility maintenance; other duties as assigned.
- Perform strenuous outdoor work in dynamic, challenging conditions.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System, or equivalent.
- Work Capacity Test passed at the "Arduous" level.
- Valid Alaska driver's license; non-licensed applicants may be considered with offer conditional on acquiring a license.
- Availability for travel, recall, and standby during fire season; ability to fly or handle hazardous materials.
- Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 1 – start $24.21 per hour.
- Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2 – start $27.25 per hour; six months trainee or entry‑level experience, plus Red Card.
- Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 3 – start $30.80 per hour; twelve months experience, at least six at developmental level, plus Red Card.
The WFRT 1/2/3 is a permanent seasonal employee with competitive benefits including health insurance, retirement, and vacation. Work is physically demanding, requiring a pack test, and involves long hours, travel, and extended periods away from home.
