Overview

The Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 3 for the Spring Creek Correctional Complex (SCCC) in Seward, Alaska.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff to ensure quality and compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Triage and assess patients
  • Maintain patient medical records
  • Observe, document, and report changes in the physical and mental conditions of patients
  • Handle crisis situations in a calm and effective manner

Working Environment

In this role, you will oversee the nursing team at Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC), providing comprehensive nursing care and professional guidance to ensure the delivery of high-quality inmate health services. You will serve in a leadership capacity to plan, organize, and evaluate health operations and electronic health record systems in compliance with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and legal requirements.

Eligibility and Experience

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and:
Two years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse, one of which must have been at the full-performance/journey level. Examples include prior service as a Corrections Nurse 2, Psychiatric Nurse 2, or Nurse 2 with the State of Alaska or equivalent with another employer.

Substitution: Combinations of prior training and experience in other nursing specializations will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.

Special Note: Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska may apply if they meet eligibility requirements and requisite qualifying experience. A conditional job offer may be made; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Some positions may require background investigation (including fingerprinting) and proof of freedom from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. These requirements will be indicated at recruitment.
