As our fixed maintenance mechanic, you will maintain all process-related systems and equipment including grinding mills, conveyor systems, and flotation circuits to keep our production going and our profitability up. You will work at a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. Safety comes first: inspect the workplace and plan, requisition parts, set up jobs, and lay out your work.

You must be able to maintain all process-related systems and equipment including grinding mills, conveyor systems, flotation circuits, pumps, pressure filters, hydraulic systems, air compressors, water treatment, ship loader and batch plant facilities. Remote island work requires independence.

About Us

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing over 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company. Hecla is a long-standing precious metals producer with a history of safety and environmental awards. This position will maintain all process-related systems and equipment including grinding mills, conveyor systems, flotation circuits, pumps, pressure filters, hydraulic systems, air compressors, water treatment, ship loader and batch plant facilities, in a safe, efficient manner.

• Maintain process-related systems and equipment listed above.
• Perform equipment lubrication, field repair, and preventative maintenance activities.
• Perform safe, efficient project planning, parts requisitions, job setup and layout work.
• Maintain housekeeping to standards.
• Read schematics, perform welding and torch cutting for repairs and minor fabrications.
• Operate bobcats, forklifts, overhead cranes and boom trucks as required.
• Be familiar with lockout/tag-out safety systems, chemical handling and SDS documents.
• Maintain a clean work area and be accountable for tools.
• Complete required maintenance reports and logs.
• Test all equipment repairs as applicable.
• Assist with welding and fabrication tasks; able to weld independently as directed by supervisor.
• Comply with state and MSHA regulations and work effectively with the team.
• Adhere to company policies and safety requirements; demonstrate productive communication, cooperation, productivity, initiative, creativity, and dependability.

Education
:
High School/Trade School or equivalent.

Experience
:
Four or more years of heavy equipment maintenance experience required; mining experience preferred. Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and hydraulic systems; welding and fabrication skills are a plus.

Pass a pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screen; pass a position-specific physical demands assessment.

Employees may be required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods; use hands; reach with arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to talk and hear. Vision and hearing requirements apply to operating machinery and safety.

Work may occur in surface or underground mine environments, with exposure to weather, humidity, extreme cold or heat, hazardous conditions, moving parts, high places, fumes or chemicals, electrical hazards, and vibration. The noise level is typically loud. This position works a 15 days on, 13 days off rotating day/night schedule.
