Millwright, Fixed Maintenance Mechanic

As our fixed maintenance mechanic, you will maintain all process-related systems and equipment including grinding mills, conveyor systems, and flotation circuits to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work at a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You'll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace, and then perform safe and efficient project planning, parts requisitions, job set up, and layout your work.

To thrive in this role, you must be able to maintain all process-related systems and equipment including grinding mills, conveyor systems, flotation circuits, pumps, pressure filters, hydraulic systems, air compressors, water treatment, ship loader and batch plant facilities. We're on a remote island, you must know how to work independently.

About Us

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing over 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here's what you can expect in this role:

* Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well.

* Apply your mechanical aptitude in schematic reading, welding and torch cutting to perform repairs and minor fabrications.

* Working on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home if you are not based in Juneau. Every department is slightly different, but our electrical department works 15 days for 12.5 hours each, followed by 13 days off.

* You'll be doing work area inspections before every job. Then, we'll rely on you to prioritize your work before you get started.

* You'll perform equipment lubrication, field repair, and preventative maintenance activities.

* Safety is important. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before we start the day for your safety and the safety of your team.
