Introduction
The Office of the State Public Defender (SPD) is currently recruiting to fill a Legal Secretary - Limited Term Employee (LTE) vacancy in our Juneau Trial office to work 20 hours per week.
- Of special note regarding Limited Term Employment (LTE) employment with the State of Wisconsin:
- LTE positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to a permanent civil service classified position, and do not lead to permanent status.
- LTE positions are not eligible for the State of Wisconsin health insurance coverage, the Wisconsin Retirement System contributions, and do not receive paid time off.
- Wisconsin residency is required for LTE positions.
- No more than 1039 hours may be worked in one year.
The Legal Secretary (LS) provides legal support to local office staff, such as ensuring the appropriate, timely and accurate processing of legal documents, and correspondence. In addition, this position is responsible for providing legal secretarial office coordination, while maintaining effective working relationships.
Salary InformationStarting salary will be $24.12/hour.

Minimum Qualifications- Effective written, oral, and communication skills
- Proficient data entry skills
- Working with computer software applications (e.g. Adobe, Google workspace, etc.)
- Detail oriented (e.g. accurately completing tasks, following instructions, gathering & organizing information, etc.)
