Overview
This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission (CFEC) is recruiting for a Paralegal 1/2 located in Juneau, Alaska.
Special note: A valid driver’s license is required. This is an exempt position. See the specific job posting for additional information.
What you will be doingAs the CFEC Paralegal, you’ll perform a variety of hearing-related work and work related to the limitation of fisheries in Alaska. This includes:
- Legal and general research
- Case briefing and drafting legal documents
- Case preparation, hearing scheduling and coordination
- Evidence management and customer support
- Designing and applying complex regulations to evaluate limited entry applications
- Calculating and applying qualification formulas
- Managing CFEC records to ensure confidentiality and compliance with the CFEC Records Retention Schedule
- Interacting with ADF&G staff across Alaska while handling confidential fish tickets
- Collaborating with the Hearing Officer, CFEC Commissioners, Law Specialist, and other project teams as opportunities arise
Become part of the Alaska Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission (CFEC), which works to conserve and maintain the economic health of Alaska’s commercial fisheries by limiting the number of participating fishers. The Commission issues permits and vessel licenses and provides due process hearings and appeal processes for disputes related to permits and fisheries limitations. Who we are looking forParalegal 1
- Ability to independently perform advanced paralegal work including legal and general research, case briefing, analysis of precedence/case law, drafting legal documents, case file preparation, hearing scheduling and coordination, evidence management, and correspondence drafting.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply complex written material such as statutes, regulations, legal terminology, court rules and procedures, contracts, case law, and related resources.
- Ability to assimilate and apply new information, reason logically, analyze data, develop alternatives, and recommend specific actions.
- Ability to manage time, handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and remain flexible.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships, communicate effectively with diverse individuals, and handle sensitive situations with professionalism.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with privacy laws and retention schedules.
Paralegal 2
- Ability to independently perform advanced paralegal work including legal and general research, case briefing, analysis of precedence/case law, drafting legal documents, case file preparation, hearing scheduling and coordination, evidence management, and correspondence drafting.
- Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, learn, and apply complex written material such as statutes, regulations, court rules and procedures, contracts, case law, and related resources.
- Ability to assimilate and apply new information, reason logically, analyze data, and recommend actions.
- Ability to manage time, prioritize assignments, meet deadlines with a positive attitude, and remain flexible.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships and communicate effectively with diverse individuals.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with privacy laws and retention schedules.
