The Department of Corrections, Division of Administration and Support / Information Technology is recruiting an Analyst/Programmer to support the Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS).

What You Will Be Doing

Serves as an analyst/programmer team member for the ACOMS. Perform analysis, design, development, documentation, testing, deployment, maintenance, and support activities required to create or modify in-house applications used in support of the department’s data processing and information technology needs.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

Located in downtown Anchorage. This position will interface daily with various offices, field staff, managers, directors, and the Commissioner’s Office.

Who We Are Looking For
  • Computer

    Languages:

    Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions.
  • Information Technology Architecture:
    Knowledge of architectural methodologies used in the design and development of information systems.
  • Logical Systems Design:
    Knowledge of the principles and methods for designing business logic components, system processes, outputs, UI, data inputs, and productivity tools.
  • Process Control:
    Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures used for automated control of a process.
  • Quality Assurance:
    Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools of quality assurance and quality control.
Analyst/Programmer Levels Level 2

One year of computer programming experience in a recognized language; one year of business or scientific application experience.

Substitution: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, or related degree with 18 semester (24 quarter) hours of CS or CIS may substitute for all required experience. An associate’s degree may substitute for nine months of required experience.

Level 3

Two years of programming experience; one year of business or scientific application experience.

Substitution: A bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year; an associate’s degree may substitute for nine months.

Level 4

Four years of programming experience; one year of business or scientific application experience.

Substitution: A bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year; an associate’s degree may substitute for nine months.

Special Note

Applicants qualifying under substitution must complete applicable coursework within three months of hire. Conditional job offer may be issued pending proof of completion before appointment and reporting for duty.

Background Investigation

Background investigation including fingerprinting is required for some positions. Use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) requires a security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety. Clearance may be denied for felony or misdemeanor convictions or other disqualifying circumstances.

Fingerprint Notice

All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.

Flexibly Staffed

This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate’s eligibility. Promotion to higher level will follow completion of the training plan and meeting qualifications.
