Overview

This recruitment notice extends the recruitment period. This position is open to All Applicants. This is a multiple class position and will be filled based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The mission of the Division of the Alaska Pioneer Homes is:
Providing elder Alaskans a home and community, celebrating life through its final breath. This position is a member of the Juneau Pioneer Home and provides person-centered support in a safe environment for up to forty-nine residents. The multi-class position may be used to fill multiple positions based on qualifications.

What you will be doing

Provide high-quality personal care to assisted living home residents in a warm, supportive, and caring manner. Plan, coordinate, and lead social and recreational activities. Lead group sessions and programs that promote physical well-being and meaningful person-to-person social interaction with residents, families, friends, and staff. Plan, organize, and implement individual and group recreational programs. Use therapeutic techniques to motivate socialization and constructive use of leisure time.

Lead and encourage residents in activities that are physical, social, and cultural. Examples include physical exercise, hobbies, crafts, parties, picnics, religious activities, and holiday celebrations.

The duties may include driving, escorting, and transporting residents using a wheelchair-accessible van. May assist residents with lifting, moving, and assisting with transfers into and out of wheelchairs, lifts, walkers, and canes per the resident’s Assisted Living Plan.

Position-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities that contribute to success:

  • Skilled in verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Physically active, capable of lifting 50 pounds, and transferring/assisting with ambulation for individuals with varied cognitive or mobility abilities.
  • Ability to lead group activities with enthusiasm, creativity, and flexibility.
  • Knowledge of recreational modalities and various recreation areas (sports, drama, music, social activities, arts and crafts).
  • Ability to devise interdisciplinary projects and instruct residents, observe, and evaluate progress.
  • Plan, organize, and lead resident group activities.
  • Ability to assist disabled or debilitated individuals in gross and fine motor activities.
  • Ability to manage hostile or unruly individuals or groups.
  • Ability to perform basic nursing, hygiene, and restorative tasks for individuals with cognitive or mobility impairments.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal signs and symptoms of common diseases and conditions.

  • This position supports a 24-hour Pioneer Home facility.
  • Pioneer Home is an Eden Alternative facility with plants, pets, and animals present.
  • Employees are screened for tuberculosis and criminal history.
  • Current driver’s license is required for driving responsibilities.
  • Assisted Living Aide / Certified Nurse Aide I minimum qualifications

    Assisted Living Aide: physically capable of standing, walking, lifting, bending, and pushing.
