Program Coordinator 1 (Cancer Education & Quality Assurance Coordinator - PCN 061689)
Position Summary: The Program Coordinator 1 is responsible for educating and training cancer reporters statewide, ensuring quality assurance of cancer data, and supporting the Alaska Cancer Registry.
- Functions as the Education & Training Coordinator:
Designs and delivers training on cancer reporting, abstracting, coding (ICD‑O, staging, treatment) and case finding, providing NCRA‑approved continuing education credits. - Serves as the Quality Assurance Coordinator:
Ensures statewide accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of cancer data through audits, edit analysis, and compliance monitoring aligned with NAACCR and NPCR standards. - Leads the development and implementation of the ACR quality assurance program, including re‑abstracting audits and corrective actions for reporting facilities.
- Provides ongoing technical assistance and mentorship to cancer reporters, produces a quarterly newsletter, and resolves data discrepancies.
- Participates in ACR operations such as death clearance and quality control, attends staff meetings and Department‑wide meetings.
- Active Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certificate.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Education in health sciences or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in training, quality assurance, and technical data review.

- Flexible 8 am–5 pm Monday–Friday schedule with options for hybrid telework.
