Position: Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 (Multi-PCN)

Job Description

The Alaska State Troopers are seeking an Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 to provide support for the Department of Public Safety at the Northern Operations Center. This recruitment is exempt from the hiring freeze (Administrative Order 358) and is open to all qualified applicants.

Responsibilities include maintaining positivity and resiliency while supporting field enforcement units, displaying professionalism and compassion to all contacts, and answering emergency and non‑emergency calls throughout the state.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Maintain positivity and resiliency while providing support for field enforcement units at the Department of Public Safety.
  • Display professionalism, compassion, and support to all individuals contacted in the line of duty, including the public, field enforcement units, civilian staff, other agencies, and coworkers.
  • Answer emergency and non‑emergency calls for service via radio and phone for areas throughout the State of Alaska.

The Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 position is based in Fairbanks, located at 1979 Peger Road in a secure facility. The work environment is fast‑paced, answering more than 135,000 calls per year. Each day is dynamic with opportunities to interact with people from many different backgrounds and provide life‑saving assistance in challenging situations.

Qualifications
  • Ability to produce consistently high‑quality work in an environment with numerous interruptions and rapidly shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Willingness to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Ability to operate multiple telephone lines.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills.
  • Work experience:

    two years, including six months of clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
  • Typing speed net 30 words per minute with no more than three errors per minute. Combined education or vocational hours may substitute up to 18 months of non‑specific work experience.
Minimum Qualifications

Two years of work experience, including six months of clerical tasks, and a typing net speed of 30 words per minute with no more than three errors per minute.
