What You Will Be DoingThe investigator’s primary role is to obtain and evaluate information and evidence, enabling the team to provide effective representation in court. It is a hands‑on role, and includes interviewing clients and witnesses both in person and telephonically, visiting and analyzing crime scenes, reviewing police reports, records and interviews, researching case leads, subpoenaing witnesses and records, obtaining copies of digital evidence, coordinating witness and expert travel, researching experts and making arrangements for their services, preparing demonstrative aides to be used at trial, and testifying in court.
The position includes the opportunity for formal introductory and advanced training in investigative techniques.
The Office of Public Advocacy (OPA) provides legal advocacy and guardianship services to vulnerable Alaskans. OPA provides a variety of services to citizens throughout the state, with Offices in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Kenai, Palmer and Bethel. The Juneau Criminal Representation section advocates primarily on behalf of adults and children accused of crimes, parents in child‑in‑need‑of‑aid cases, and persons facing the appointment of a legal guardian.

While the work of this team is primarily defense work, those with law enforcement or Department of Corrections experience are encouraged to apply.
The Working Environment You Can ExpectThis position is in OPA’s Juneau Criminal Representation section (JCR) located in the State Office Building in downtown Juneau. Work is primarily done from this location, however the position will necessarily include travel throughout southeast and at times across the State.
