What You Will Be Doing

You will be part of the Public Assistance Eligibility Team focused on helping Alaskan families statewide reach higher levels of independence and self‑sufficiency. In this role, you’ll determine eligibility for a range of state and federal assistance programs such as Medicaid, SNAP, Heating Assistance, Cash Assistance, and more. Your responsibilities include interviewing applicants, reviewing their financial and personal information, and applying program rules to determine eligibility.

You will make accurate and timely decisions in line with policies and regulations. For applicants who are determined eligible, you will initiate authorization of benefits for services and other supports. You will work across multiple computer interfaces.

This position joins a statewide eligibility workflow team in local Public Assistance offices. The work location is 855 W Commercial Drive, Wasilla, AK 99654. Eligibility Requirements:
- One year of entry‑level experience as an Eligibility Technician 1 with the State of Alaska.
- OR One year performing similar work developing knowledge and skills in applying program requirements and working with client customers in stressful situations.

Substitution
Post‑secondary education in fields such as sociology, social work, psychology, counseling, human services, vocational rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, behavioral sciences, business, public administration, or accounting may substitute for the required experience (undergraduate credits: 2.67 semester/4 quarter hours = 1 month).
