Job Description
The SPG Monitor will be appointed on any petition for review in guardianship or conservatorship cases filed by the Office of Public Advocacy, Public Guardian. The position conducts reviews similar to a Court Visitor, including file review, interviews with family members or service providers, and preparation of a written report to the Court and the Office of Public Advocacy. Multiple travel throughout Alaska is required.
Responsibilities- Assist with reviewing guardianship and conservatorship filings, ensuring compliance with court-ordered paperwork.
- Support the Guardianship Helpline, travel to court locations as needed, and manage filing timeliness and completeness.
- Communicate with guardians and conservators to provide reminders and answer questions.
- Conduct file reviews when complaints are received under the direction of the Guardianship Compliance Officer.
- Send reminders, make phone or email contacts, schedule compliance conferences, track new appointments for initial filings, and refer cases to the Guardianship Compliance Officer for further review.
- Provide court-ordered check‑ins, targeted reminders, and focused training to families referred by a judge or court visitor.
- Offer structured check‑ins for up to six months or until the guardian or conservator demonstrates ability to meet court requirements, ensuring timely and accurate filings while protecting the well‑being of the person under guardianship.
- Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, behavioral sciences, social sciences, public health administration, public or business administration, accounting, or a closely related field AND two years of professional work experience in any of the above fields.
- OR an associate’s degree in a related field AND four years of professional work experience in any of the above fields.
- Preferred: A basic understanding of accounting principles and their practical use.

Full‑time court employees work 37.5 hours per week. The schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a one‑hour lunch break. Travel throughout Alaska is required.
