Correctional Officer 2 (Seward, AK)

About the RoleJoin the Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC) in Seward as a Correctional Officer 2. You will participate in a 12–14 month field training program and a seven‑week Correctional Officer Academy, after which you will be certified by the Alaska Police Standards Council.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain order and discipline among inmates, performing routine security checks and inspections.
- Operate the security control room and assist with incident management and conflict resolution.
- Apply knowledge of statutes, regulations, and procedures to daily tasks and explain them to inmates and the public.
- Follow oral and written instructions, use business software, and communicate effectively.
- Use self‑defense, firearms, and appropriate force to protect oneself and others, responding calmly in emergencies.
- Read and comprehend legal statutes, apply them to specific situations, and explain procedures to the public and inmates.
- Assist with maintaining an environment conducive to rehabilitation.
- At least 21 years old and a U.S. citizen or national.
- High‑school diploma or GED.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license;
Commercial driver’s license may be required for some positions. - Successful completion of a criminal history, background investigation, drug screening, medical exam, and psychological evaluation.
- One year of experience in custody, security, or rehabilitation in an adult correctional institution, or completion of the Alaska Correctional Officer Academy.
- Paid leave: 16 days in first two years, increasing with tenure.
- 12 paid holidays annually.
- "Week on / week off" schedule alternating day and night shifts.
