The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for multiple Female Correctional Officer 2 positions for the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center (HMCC) located in Eagle River, Alaska. This recruitment is for Female Applicants Only.
What You Will Be Doing- Embark on a career in Corrections with numerous training and promotion paths.
- Play a vital role in reforming inmates and helping them contribute positively to society.
- Complete a 12‑14 month structured field training and a seven‑week Correctional Officer Academy.
- Receive certification as a Correctional Officer from the Alaska Police Standards Council.
- Up to 16 days of paid leave in the first two years, increasing with years of service.
- 12 paid holidays annually and 11 paid holidays annually (listed twice in original for emphasis).
- 84‑hour work week with week‑on/week‑off schedule alternating day and night shifts.
Hiland Mountain Correctional Center is Alaska's designated facility for female prisoners. Located in Eagle River, it offers a peaceful setting with stunning views of the Chugach Mountains and 11 buildings covering approximately 120,000 square feet on 62.7 acres. Capacity: ~400 inmates.
Who We Are Looking For Core Competencies- Follow oral and written instructions, use business software, and communicate required information effectively.
- Learn and apply self‑defense techniques, firearms and appropriate force for self‑protection and to protect others.
- Read and comprehend statutes, regulations, and procedures; explain them to the public and inmates.
- Assist in maintaining order and discipline, operate the security control room, and handle unruly or violent prisoners with minimal force.
- Help create and maintain an environment conducive to prisoner rehabilitation.
- Completion of the Alaska Correctional Officer Academy or equivalent accredited program.
- One year of experience performing duties that support custody, security, and rehabilitation in an adult correctional institution or equivalent as a Correctional Officer 1 with the State of Alaska.
- 21 years or older, U.S. citizen or national, high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license issued in the U.S.
- Conditional appointment pending background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination.
- Commercial Driver’s License may be required for some positions.
- Willingness to work shift assignments and on‑call availability may be required.
- Full criminal history check required.
- Submit notarized F‑3 Personal History Statement Form and required documentation (transcripts, birth certificate, passport, etc.).
- All job offers are conditional upon successful completion of background, drug screening, medical examination, and psychological evaluation.
- Compliance with Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and federal firearm regulations.
- People with misdemeanor domestic‑violence convictions are ineligible.
