Position Overview
Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish – RTS is recruiting for a permanent, full‑time GIS Analyst 2 located in Anchorage, Alaska.

What You Will Be DoingAs a GIS Analyst, under general supervision, your primary responsibility is the annual revision of the Alaska Department of Fish & Game’s Anadromous Waters Catalog (AWC), a geodatabase identifying water bodies important for the spawning, rearing, and migration of anadromous fishes. You will review and process hundreds of nominations annually, perform spatial edits, update metadata, and produce digital maps and data layers for statewide use.
In addition, you will provide GIS support through mapping services, data analysis, and technical assistance to staff throughout the division and department.
The Division of Sport Fish protects, maintains, and improves Alaska’s fisheries resources. The Anadromous Fish Act (Alaska Statute 16.05.871) directs the Department to specify water bodies important for the spawning, rearing, and migration of anadromous fish. By maintaining the AWC, this position ensures accurate identification and legal recognition of these habitats, supporting conservation during development activities. Position is based at the Anchorage Fish & Game Office on Raspberry Road. The work environment is task‑oriented with a manageable pace and some duties occurring on a yearly schedule. The schedule can be flexible, and the incumbent will be part of a small, collaborative team, occasionally working closely with other staff to develop solutions to various tasks and projects. Field work may require firearms use, First Aid and CPR certifications, and wildlife and firearm safety training.

Uses knowledge from formal training or extensive on‑the‑job experience to perform job duties and advise others.
Any combination of preparatory post‑secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in GIS operations, data collection, cartography, computer science, geography, or a related field.
