Assistant Principal
Position SummaryThe Assistant Principal reports to the Principal and is responsible for providing day-to-day administrative leadership to ensure effective school operations, high standards of student conduct, and alignment with all Board policies and district regulations. This key role involves supervision of all school personnel and instructional programs, managing school finances and grant funds, developing student activities and handbooks, and fostering positive relationships within the school, district, and local village community.
QualificationsCertification and Licensure
- Current Alaska Type T Teaching Certificate.
- Current Alaska Type B Administrative Certificate.
- Minimum of three (3) years of combined experience as a school administrator and/or teacher.
- A Master's Degree in Educational Administration is preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or School Board may deem appropriate and acceptable.
- Ability to regularly lift 20 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Implement and ensure staff and student observance of all Board policies and district regulations.
- Supervise all personnel serving and/or attending the assigned school.
- Supervise all instructional program components, the operation of the school facilities, and all school activities.
- Keep the Principal informed of pertinent school problems and activities.
- Effectively and efficiently delegate appropriate responsibilities to school staff to ensure the total program operates successfully.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary, ensuring due process for the rights of students and staff.
- Determine the need for, develop, and evaluate student activities and programs of study in accordance with district policy and community needs.
- Develop and publish a student handbook pursuant to district policy.
- Ensure that proper pupil personnel records are kept accurate and up to date.
- Conduct the teacher evaluation process as prescribed in the negotiated agreement.
- Recommend appropriate classified staff for hire, designate duties, and evaluate classified staff to promote improvement of school operation.
- Assist staff with professional training and staff development needs.
- Manage school funds and the school budget in accordance with accepted accounting practices and district guidelines.
- Administer grant funds in compliance with regulation and district guidelines.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of various program funding sources.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of instructional materials and school equipment.
- Ensure that building grounds and equipment are maintained in a proper state of repair, safety, and cleanliness.
- Notify the District of misuse, neglect, needed repairs, or required alterations to facilities or equipment.
- Maintain a positive image and effective relations between the school, district, and local village community.
- Foster a close working relationship between the school, district, and the school's AEC (Advisory Education Committee).
Reports To: Principal
Salary: Placement on Administrator's Salary Schedule.
Length of Employment: 200 days
