Job Overview

UAS Dining Services is looking for student employees for the Lakeside Grill and Spike's Cafe! Employees will learn transferrable skills in customer service, money handling, and food and drink preparation. Compensation is $14.96/hour plus a meal plan stipend of $750 for qualifying student employees.

Responsibilities

Duties will include crafting espresso and other specialty drinks, maintaining a clean and orderly work area, taking orders and payments, providing excellent customer service, preparing food—including chopping, packaging, and cooking food items for sale—receiving deliveries and ensuring accuracy of delivery invoices, and special projects such as inventory, catering events, detailed cleaning, and other tasks as assigned. Employees will be expected to complete required trainings and attend regular staff meetings.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Training is provided for all tasks required of the position. Previous experience as a barista is preferred.
  • To be successful in this role employees should have a passion for providing excellent customer service, possess problem solving and communication skills, and be able to arrive promptly to scheduled shifts.
Eligibility for Student Employment
  • Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
  • Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters;
  • Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, be in good academic standing, or have approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.
  • Students enrolled in non‑traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.
  • An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.
Position Details

This position is located on the Juneau Campus. It is a part‑time student employee position, earning $14.96/hr to be eligible for the meal‑plan stipend, you must regularly work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
