The successful individual will serve as a Sponsored Teacher, working in close collaboration with a mentor teacher to develop professional instructional skills while actively pursuing full teacher certification. This role is designed for educators who are currently enrolled in, or entering, a teacher preparation program. The Sponsored Teacher will contribute to a dynamic school team, assisting in the enhancement of educational programs and utilizing multiple forms of assessment to track student progress.

• Collaborative Practice:
  Collaborate with a mentor teacher to plan, deliver, and reflect on classroom instruction.
• Professional Development:
  Maintain active enrollment and successful progress in education coursework through UAF.
• Certification Tracking:
  Ensure all required documentation and progress reporting is submitted to the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) to maintain apprenticeship standing.
• Student Engagement:
  Support a diverse student population by implementing varied teaching strategies and maintaining a positive learning environment.

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree are required for Apprentice Teacher applicants (in any field, provided it meets UAF admission criteria).
• All other District Sponsored Teacher applicants will require individual educational criteria evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis.
• Enrollment in a qualifying teacher certification program (Apprentice Teachers will enroll in the University of Alaska Fairbanks).
• Currently hold an active Alaska Teaching License or have the ability to obtain a District Sponsored License.
• Must be flexible and able to work with colleagues in multiple instructional settings.
• Excellent interpersonal skills that promote positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• (For Apprentice Teachers) Willingness to commit two years after the completion of the Apprenticeship program to employment at the Juneau School District.

• Previous experience working with school‑aged children in a coaching, tutoring, or support role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current educational research and diverse teaching strategies.
• Strong behavior management skills and an appreciation for parental involvement in the educational process.
