Job Summary

The Paraprofessional Educator Special Education Resource Preschool assists teachers with classroom activities, student supervision, and grading or other reporting in elementary preschool programs. The position requires a variety of clerical tasks and student monitoring and is associated with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.
  • Must meet paraprofessional requirements for the state of Alaska through one of the following methods(categories:
    • 48 college semester credits from a regionally accredited institution
    • a passing score of 459 or greater on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment exam
    • passing the Work Keys by ACT assessment
    • passing the ASD provided Master Teacher paraprofessional training
    )
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation of staff, parents, students, , and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a professional relationship with staff, parents, students, administrators, and the public.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge in first aid.
  • Experience in general clerical work.
  • Ability to work with people of all age levels.
  • Ability to convey effectively explanations of policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Essential Job Functions
  • Provides instructional services in adapted curriculum to students.
  • Accompanies certified staff on home visits.
  • Develops and implements class programs that include activities based on the student’s goals. Monitors student work, collects data, and maintains records in accordance with the student’s goals and objectives as directed by certificated staff.
  • Assists certificated staff with classroomષ્ં management.
  • Follows written and oral instructions, and independently follows through on strategies directed by certificated staff.
  • Assists with supervising a student or group of students during lunch and recess periods, indoors and outdoors.
  • Maintains classroom materials, prepares documentation as directed by certificated staff.
  • Maintains student and teacher files, including student attendance.
  • Monitors students on the school grounds.
  • Supports students during bus travel to and from school.
  • Supports the district’s position of valuing diversity, promoting respect, and maintaining standards of confidentiality.
Physical /Mental Demands

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required, as well as the ability to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. The employee must understand vague and implicit instructions, recall facts and details, handle 것이 conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.

The employee must manage the stress of working with students, parents, and employees from diverse cultures and personalities.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals. The employee may be exposed to video displays, outdoor weather conditions, and moderate noise levels.

Work Year: 9 months
Work Day: 6.5 hours per day
FTE: Full time, 0.8125 FTE
Salary: T-10, $20.53 to $21.40 per hour, DOE
